Things to Do in Ferndale in July

Summer is in full swing in Ferndale, and July offers an array of fun activities for visitors. From festive celebrations to the great outdoors, there’s something for everyone in the Victorian Village. Here’s a guide to making the most of your July visit to Ferndale.

Stay in Ferndale during your redwoods trip. Our charming town is conveniently located right between the two best places to experience the wonders of Northern California’s redwood forests. About 20 minutes south of Ferndale on Highway 101, you’ll find Avenue of the Giants, a once-in-a-lifetime scenic route leading you to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, with its easy trails and photo opportunities galore. About an hour to the north, you can check Redwood National and State Parks off your bucket list after passing through some of Humboldt County’s most scenic coastal highlights, like Sue-meg State Park’s Wedding Rock.

Money.com recently named Humboldt County one of the world’s top 50 travel destinations. Ferndale—a peaceful, walkable, and friendly Victorian village—makes the perfect home base to explore all Humboldt offers.

Beat the heat. The cool summer weather is one of the best things about Ferndale in July. With average high temperatures around 70°F this month, Ferndale offers a refreshing escape from heat waves elsewhere. The mild temperatures make it perfect for exploring the town, enjoying outdoor activities, and attending events without breaking a sweat. Whether you’re strolling down Main Street, hiking in Russ Park, or exploring Centerville Beach, you’ll appreciate the comfortable climate that Ferndale provides.

Celebrate Independence Day. Kick off the month with the Fourth of July parade, a cherished Ferndale tradition. The July 4 parade starts at noon on Main Street, featuring colorful floats and plenty of patriotic spirit.

Enjoy live music. The Boardroom hosts a rotation of talented local musicians on Thursdays from 6-8pm while serving up charcuterie, beer/wine, and more (closed July 4). On the first Friday of every month, head to Tuyas Cantina from 6-8pm to enjoy live music by Flynn Martin. These venues provide a great way to experience local talent and unwind with good food and drinks. (For more live music throughout the year, keep an eye on The Old Steeple’s concert lineup too!)

Eat your veggies. Summer means farmstand season! Fair Curve Farm sells its Ferndale-grown certified organic produce every Saturday on Main Street (June-December). It’s an excellent spot to grab ingredients for a picnic or take home a taste of Ferndale’s agricultural bounty. (Another local farmstand—Country Girl Farms/Ferndale Family Farms—will also be opening its doors with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on July 13!)

Attend the Lost Coast Kennel Club’s All-Breed Show. From July 5-7, the Humboldt County Fairgrounds will host this event perfect for dog lovers, featuring obedience trials, rally events, and the excitement of dog agility competitions. It’s a great way to spend the weekend and enjoy the talents of our four-legged friends and their humans.

Check out our community theatre. For young thespians aged 8-17, the Marilyn McCormick Summer Youth Workshop at Ferndale Repertory Theatre runs from July 15-26, culminating with a public performance! “Whether you’re drawn to the spotlight or curious about the magic behind the scenes, this workshop has something for everyone,” says the Rep.

Explore Main Street. Stroll down Ferndale’s historic Main Street, where you can shop for unique gifts, antiques, and locally made goods and enjoy our many restaurant and lodging options. The Victorian architecture, a unique blend of history and charm, will add a special touch to your experience. Our entire Main Street is on the National Register of Historic Places!

Get outside. Between Russ Park, Hadley Gardens, Centerville Beach, the Lost Coast, and Firemen’s Park (with its playground, bocce, and basketball courts), Ferndale has something for every nature lover. Our natural beauty, manicured gardens, and fresh ocean air will help you slow down and savor the summer season.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU TO FERNDALE!
