The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce is pleased to grant the 2025 “For the Love of Ferndale” awards to Ellie Green and Tom Renner in honor of their years of devoted service to our community.

Ellie Green enhances local events and fundraisers with her artistry and signature costumes. Each December for more than three decades as “Ellie the Elf,” she has hand-painted and filled  goodie bags for Ferndale children and helped “Santa” distribute them on Main Street after arriving by fire truck to one of Ferndale’s most magical holiday events. The enduring characters and scenes of her one-of-a-kind goodie bags have delighted hundreds of local kids over the years. Along with her sisters, Ellie has used her creative talents in dozens of Ferndale parades. She was part of the merchant community for many years with her Main Street shop, Valley Arts.

Tom Renner, the owner of Ring’s Pharmacy, has been a pharmacist for more than 40 years and is instrumental in the health and well-being of Ferndale area residents. Known for his friendly and knowledgeable advice, Tom epitomizes the role of small-town pharmacist, always making himself available for customers near and far. Tom has gone above and beyond to help his customers and operate one of Ferndale's most important businesses. Our small town is incredibly fortunate to have a locally owned pharmacy on our side of the bridge.

“This year’s honorees exemplify what makes Ferndale such a wonderful place to live and to visit,” said Chamber President Janet Carney. “From our vibrant downtown shops to our whimsical and magical community events, Tom and Ellie have spent many decades caring about this community through their own selfless acts of kindness. Tom has worked and cared for just about every person who has ever lived in Ferndale and has gone far beyond what his work demands. It's fair to say, without his steady guidance and help, there would likely be fewer of us. And Ellie’s quest to bring joy to children is as special as her spirit, her beautiful art, and the generosity of her time, year after year. The Chamber of Commerce is honored and delighted to celebrate their contributions with this award.”

The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce began the “For the Love of Ferndale” awards in 2024. The first year’s honorees were Jim Stretch, for his years of dedication to maintaining Russ Park, and Betty Diehl, for her longtime leadership of the Ferndale Community Choir.

The Chamber will hold its next monthly general meeting tonight, February 3, at 5:30pm at the Victorian Inn conference room. All are welcome.
