Singin in the Rain

This film takes place during the transition of silent films to ‘talkies’ and follows the story of Don (Gene Kelly) and Lina (Jean Hagen), who have been repeatedly cast as a romantic couple, despite Don’s dislike for his delusional, shallow film partner. When their latest film gets turned into a musical, Lina’s voice fails to fit the part, and the director hires Kathy (Debbie Reynolds), an aspiring young actress, to record Lina’s voice. Singin’ in the Rain was directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, and released in 1952.
